So first Vople is alleged for taking money from Minors for his campaign, and now he is signing up people from the dead. President of the treasury Board John Baird, along with NDP critics, have since been mocking the Liberal party in general and poking fun at these allegations. My take on the issue is not whether Mr. Volpe would make a good leader - because I do not think he would make a good leader- but rather why so much attention to him and his errors?
His news conferences and appearances on Canada Am gave him a chance to clarify and, not to belittle the allegations, he made good points. I mean obviously there were dead people signed up - the paper work shows it- but to what advantage of his would that be? I mean come on really. How are the dead people suppose to come out and support him? Its non-sense to make such a huge deal out of this. And believe me when I say I am no fan of Mr. Volpe. And nontheless the media attention and the potential actuality of another camp being responsible for the allegations is both a) giving a negative image of the party itself and b) not having any constructive purpose in itself.
How would you measure in on Mr. Volpe and the criticisms he has recieved? As one Conservative cabinet minister was quoted saying to Robert fife (on CTV) is "Joe Volpe the gift )to conservative)that keeps on giving"?
Since we are Liberals and have an interest in our party, do you think Mr.Volpe is worsening the situation for Liberals in general by staying in the race?

Liberal membership flap grows

A complaint was filed with the party’s Ontario wing over 60 members allegedly signed up improperly by Ignatieff’s camp in two Toronto-area ridings, including one man in Ignatieff’s constituency who is dead.
Ignatieff got dragged into the membership controversy Monday when a complaint was filed listing 48 members in his Etobicoke-Lakeshore riding who have allegedly admitted they did not sign a membership form or pay the membership fee.
It includes signed statements from three of the members who each declare that “my membership fees were kindly paid for by the Michael Ignatieff leadership campaign.”
As well, the complaint lists 11 members in the riding of Brampton-Springdale who all gave the same home address, which the complainant alleges is actually an Indian restaurant. Brampton-Springdale is held by MP Ruby Dhalla, a top Ignatieff supporter.
I think that Volpe is suceptable to bad press for some reason... perhaps he has the "Stanfield Factor" (think about the football). Sure, Volpe is not the first to have membership discrepancies and allegations of skullduggery, but he is vulnerable to bad press. As I said on my blog, the Conservatives are very good at spinning bad press into even worse press.
All of Ignatieff's accusations have been deemed false. The Ignatieff Campaign did not sign up members wrongly and the accusations were merely about people signed up in the etobicoke -lakeshore riding (mr.ignatieff riding) and not because there was any real evidence that Ignatieff's people had anything to do with it.
Sachin Aggrawal (Chief Agent and National Director of Operations
Michael Ignatieff Leadership Campaign)released an email he sent to LPC Steve Mackinnon indicating that only 3 of the 60 alleged membership citations were signed up by Ignatieff's campaign. The other 57 were from other camps or from people independently of the leadership race.
He does indeed seem to draw bad press, but the almost humorous part is that he doesnt really seem to care all that much.
He (JOE VOLPE) just keep drudging onwards. This of which I do not find to be detrimental to the Liberal Party really at all- The conservatives will use anything they can against us. Volpe may not be leadership material but he certainly has a lot of politcal experience that is benficial to the party itself. I dont think we should be too harsh on him.
